On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., Anhalt University of Applied Sciences invites you to a free taster lecture on beekeeping in the lecture hall of the Biotechnikum (BT - Building 29 - Bernburg) on Campus Bernburg. Interested members of the public will be given a first insight into the "Beekeeping and honey quality" lecture series, which starts in the 2026 summer semester. The aim is to introduce people who are interested in natural honey and keeping bees to beekeeping in a technically sound manner and to show them how they can become beekeepers themselves.
The background to the event is current reports of adulterated honey, which are causing uncertainty. Fraudsters are increasingly mixing cheap sugar syrup into honey, often so skillfully that even complex laboratory analyses cannot always prove the fraud. It is estimated that more than half of the goods traded worldwide are suspected of being adulterated. If you want to enjoy natural honey safely, it is therefore a good idea to buy it directly from regional beekeepers. However, their production only covers around 30 percent of the nationwide demand: one reason why more and more people are thinking about becoming active themselves and keeping their own bees.
This is precisely where Anhalt University of Applied Sciences comes in. As in previous years, the "Beekeeping and Honey Quality" lecture series will provide the necessary theoretical knowledge for successful and responsible beekeeping in the summer semester of 2026. It is aimed at Ecotrophology and Agriculture students as well as interested members of the public who can participate as guest students. The classes are deliberately held in the evening from 5:30 p.m. to enable working people to take part. Head of Teaching Beekeeping Prof. Dr. Margot Dasbach says: "If there are still places available, guest students can also take part in the weekly practical beekeeping course, in which practical work on the bee colonies is taught."
The taster lecture on January 13 offers anyone who is curious the opportunity to get to know the basics, ask questions and find out more about the lecture series without obligation. Registration is not required.
