Prof. Alejandro Lecuna

Alejandro Lecuna studied Design and Experimental Media at the University of the Arts in Berlin, the School of Visual Arts in New York, and the Instituto de Diseño de Caracas. His career spans over three decades in both academia and industry, focusing on Integrated Design and Design Methodology. Since 2011, he has taught Integrated and Strategic Design at institutions including the University of Applied Sciences Anhalt (Bauhaus Campus), HTW Berlin, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam (D-School), Oxford University, Beijing Normal University (Zhuhai), and the Design Akademie Berlin (SRH Hochschule). From 2018 to 2020, he served as Studiengangsleiter (Program Director) of the Business Communication program at HTW Berlin, overseeing curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaborations. His teaching integrates Strategic Design, Visual Communication, Interaction Design, Storytelling, Filmmaking, and Future Design, emphasizing experiential learning and interdisciplinary methodologies.

Alongside his academic career, he has led complex projects at international design firms such as Frog Design, Meta Design, Scholz & Friends, and DDB, as well as in the Hollywood film industry, working with clients including Mercedes-Benz, Adidas, Coca-Cola, and Budweiser, and collaborating with directors such as the Wachowskis, Jaco Van Dormael, Christian Alvart, Wes Anderson, and Duncan Jones. His work focuses on developing strategic and innovative solutions for large-scale design challenges, seamlessly bridging analog and digital worlds. As Creative Director of Takeoff Technologies, he played a key role in scaling the company from a startup to a multimillion-dollar enterprise, shaping its communication strategy and user experience for omnichannel grocery solutions.

Since 2023, he has served as Director of the Bauhaus Innovation Lab at Hochschule Anhalt, leading research in speculative and future-oriented design. His research examines the uncertainties of future scenarios, integrating speculative design methodologies with the analysis of environmental, technological, and societal shifts. He develops new frameworks for envisioning future worlds and their artifacts, contributing to the broader discourse on design’s role in navigating uncertainty.

Since 2023, he has also served as Head of International Affairs and Program Director of the Master in Intermediales Design at Hochschule Anhalt, where he is currently leading its transformation into a Strategy and Innovation Master program. He is also a member of the Fachbereichsrat (Faculty Council) at Hochschule Anhalt, where he serves on various academic committees.

His recent projects include the research initiative Future Archeologies, presented at the HICSS Conference in Hawaii, and multiple speculative design workshops, collaborating with Constructlab in Berlin and the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam. His current work explores the intersection of Future Design, strategic foresight, and the development of design methodologies for uncertain futures.
