Prof. Dr. Tobias Kersten

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tobias Kersten works at the intersect of precise satellite-based measurement technology, uncertainty analysis, and practical implementation. After completing his studies in surveying at the Technical University of Berlin in 2009 (Dipl.-Ing.), he earned his doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) in 2014 at the Institute of Geodesy at Leibniz University Hannover, where he was actively involved for a total of 17 years. Since March 2026, he has been a professor of Geodesy and Geoinformation at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau. Previously, as scientific coordinator at the Institute of Geodesy (Leibniz University Hannover) at the group of Positioning and Navigation, he was responsible for the substantive and organizational coordination of research, laboratory resources, and national and international cooperations. His research focuses on GNSS, antenna calibration, and geodetic measurement technology—with the goal of enabling highly accurate, reproducible, and transparently evaluated positioning. His participation in the Freie University of Berlin’s excavation campaign in Syria (Tell Fecheriye, August–September 2006) broadened his perspective on interdisciplinary applications of geodetic and geophysical methods. He is active in international expert committees (including the Governing Board of the International GNSS Service (IGS), the IGS Antenna Product Committee, and Joint Working Groups (JWG) C.5 and C.6 of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG)) and serves as a reviewer.

Starting in March 2026, he has been teaching at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Dessau), specializing in physical geodesy, land surveying, satellite geodesy, and positioning and navigation. In his teaching, he emphasizes methodological rigour, transparent uncertainty modelling, and application-oriented, reproducible analyses—ranging from the teaching of fundamentals to project-based laboratory and field exercises.
