Department focuses on digital mechanical engineering (June 2020)

In June, the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management decided to focus even more on digitization in mechanical engineering. The new degree program regulations for the bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering are the first step to integrating this topic into the curriculum. See details in the press article below:

New laboratories for research and teaching in Mechanical Engineering (May 2020)

In April, the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management introduced the digital workshop, the ego.-INKUBATOR “CAx” and the ego.-INKUBATOR “User Experience”. These incubators expand students’ possibilities for carrying out practical projects and the master's thesis.

University invests heavily in online teaching (April 2020)

Due to increased demand, the university has massively increased its capacity in video conferencing systems since April 2020. In addition to Jitsi and DFNconf, Webex (c) is available to all lecturers. With a few exceptions, lectures in the summer semester 2020 will be offered online (web lecture, video recordings...).

Department decides to make the degree program even more flexible (January 2020)

In January 2020, the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management decided to make the program even more flexible. Application and enrollment are now also possible in the summer semester in addition to the winter semester.
This reduces the time from the decision to study to the start of the degree by up to half a year.

CAD/CAM for green engines – Manufacturing a valve cover for a hydrogen engine (November 2019)

As part of a university project, a valve cover for a hydrogen engine was manufactured in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management. Based on the CAD data, 5-axis toolpaths for a CNC machining center were generated using the tebis® CAM system, which is also used in the elective module CAM II. The video linked below shows the development of the component from programming to production:
