Köthen is a small town with a lot of culture and a great location between Leipzig and Magdeburg. Halle is also well connected and is home to many instructors and students who want to study in a family environment but live their private lives in the metropolis. Student life is characterized above all by personal initiative - many students get involved and meet in the student club or in the Mensa cellar.

Localizers are in demand

Software Localization is a practice-oriented degree program with a focus on language of instruction and translation, cultural characteristics and user behaviour. As localization experts, you will work on adapting software to the linguistic and cultural conditions of different target markets. You translate online help, user manuals as well as menus and buttons of computer programs, which you then also adapt to the new language of instruction. With your knowledge of language and culture and the necessary information technology knowledge, you adapt forms and colors to different target markets, which makes your studies very varied and interdisciplinary.

In summary, this means: 1/3 language training in English and German, 1/3 intercultural communication and project management and 1/3 translation technology and IT basics.

And what happens afterwards in the real world?

As a software localizer, you can work for software companies, international companies, localization service providers or as a freelancer. Our graduates work as localization experts at Microsoft or as translation technology and terminology management managers at DaimlerChrysler or Volkswagen. With linguistic knowledge and IT skills, creativity, communication and teamwork skills, you will be in high demand on the job market.
