Question: The tablet is the symbol of all pharmaceutical forms. What else does Pharmaceutical Engineering deal with?
Answer: In addition to the classic tablet, there are also solid preparations such as capsules, coated tablets, powders, granules and many more. Of course, there are also semi-solid dosage forms such as ointments, creams and gels as well as liquids such as injection solutions and the like. But the job is not just limited to production. Rather, it involves the entire process of drug production in the company. Engineers can be employed from incoming goods through to final inspection.
Question: What special responsibility does the Pharmaceutical Engineering engineer have towards society?
Answer: In the case of pharmaceuticals, safety, efficacy and quality are of central importance. With demographic change and the globalization of the healthcare industry, it is extremely important for pharmaceutical engineers to be able to supply high-quality drugs in the required quantities at reasonable conditions. Solutions must also be sought and clarified with regard to the ever-increasing number of counterfeit drugs and critical therapies.
Question: What prerequisites do you need to study Pharmaceutical Engineering? Did you have any "dry spells" during your studies?
Answer: Even if it is a classic statement, I would like to mention the often-mentioned self-organization and a high level of motivation. It is precisely because studying follows very different rhythms over the semester and the exams that I have had the greatest difficulties with these aspects. However, the perspective that the degree I am aiming for corresponds to my interests and that I can contribute to supporting people in extreme situations by working as an engineer has always helped me.
