Data Science (DaS) - Consulting includes individual consultations for doctoral students at the Doctoral Center Life Sciences of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. It offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to receive advice on Data Science topics, i.e. in particular on questions of empirical research methods, mathematics and statistics.
What for?
Scientific studies require empirical methods in order to derive results for defined objectives. Statistical basics, knowledge of empirical research methods and a basic knowledge of Data Science are essential cornerstones for the derivation of result implications.
For whom?
The DaS-Consulting offer is aimed at doctoral students at the Doctoral Center Life Sciences at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Doctoral students who use empirical research methods in their dissertation, create experimental research designs, clean, analyze and present data and are not sure whether they are really doing everything right are in the right place with DaS-Consulting. Recommendations on suitable software tools for surveys or statistical evaluations can also be included.
What exactly?
DaS-Consulting supports doctoral candidates in answering individual questions and helps to draw data-based conclusions for individual doctoral projects. Consulting can help with questions regarding
- the choice of research design
- data collection,
- data analysis and mathematical/statistical interpretation
- the communication of results
and can be individually tailored to the needs and requirements of the respective doctoral project.
Interested? What else is there to consider?
- Please note that it is often advisable to make use of DaS consulting at an early stage, i.e. in the planning phase and thus well before the actual data analysis, in order to ultimately obtain meaningful results.
- The use of individual DaS consulting should ALWAYS be discussed in advance with the supervising doctoral supervisor.
- A basic understanding of statistical and mathematical principles is essential in order to derive the best possible benefit from DaS consulting. If no prior knowledge of statistics is available, it may be helpful to attend courses offered by the Chair of Mathematics, Statistics and Special Computer Science.
- DaS-Consulting sees itself as "help for self-help" and advises on Data Science methods in individual dissertation projects. However, the concrete implementation of the methods in the respective doctoral project is not possible.
