Welcome to the certification of your butterfly knowledge!

Comprehensive species knowledge and a deep understanding of the lifestyles and requirements of species are key skills for the protection, conservation and restoration of biodiversity. Whether in environmental education, practical nature conservation work or in research - both volunteers and professionals are increasingly looking for experts in various faunistic species groups.

The Professor Hellriegel-Institut e.V. (PHI) at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences offers the examination for the BANU certificate "Butterflies & Drosophila" bronze. The certification is part of a nationwide system developed by the "Federal Working Group of State-run Environmental Education Centers in Nature and Environmental Protection"(BANU) and defines a transparent, high standard. The species knowledge acquired during training and/or time spent independently studying can be verified and papered in this way.

The BANU certificate "Butterflies & Drosophila" bronze confirms knowledge of 65 species. In the examination, 20 randomly selected adult butterflies are presented, for which a correct species identification must be made (75% of the points). Questions on biology, ecology, morphology, habitats and legal aspects account for 25% of the points.

The examination takes place indoors using pictures, videos and/or specimens. Identification aids are not permitted. If 80% of the points are achieved, the examination is deemed to have been passed; if 90% are achieved, the examination is deemed to have been passed with distinction.

An extension to the silver and gold certificates as well as offers for other species groups are planned for the future.

The offer is aimed at multipliers, students and employees in official and voluntary nature conservation as well as planning offices and all interested parties.
