Renewable energies and IIOT

The event took place during the week of September 11, 2023, at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, serving as a significant platform for discussions on cutting-edge innovations in the field of Industrial IoT in connection with renewable energy systems. The main objective was to create a dynamic atmosphere for collaboration between various expert groups, including executives, technical managers, heads of major German research institutions, and university researchers. Representatives from academia, research institutions, industry in North Macedonia, public administration, stakeholder groups, and German companies in the region were present. Companies and universities from Central Asia that had participated in last year’s iRIF also complemented the forum.
With a focus on applied sciences and technology transfer into the economy, research initiatives were highlighted to enhance the innovation potential of German SMEs. Instead of a traditional academic conference, this event was designed as a lively symposium that encouraged informal interaction. After technical presentations, ample space was provided for engaging discussions and exchanges of ideas with experts from various fields and nationalities.
The strategies developed from these discussions were intended to lead to the implementation of new products and services in the target regions. iRIF had already demonstrated success in fostering such collaborations, enabling German SMEs and research institutions to initiate R&D initiatives in their countries after participating in the forums.
Although iRIF took place in Skopje, it aimed to create a melting pot of ideas and experiences by inviting representatives from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan to contribute valuable perspectives from Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The active involvement of German representatives in these regions made the forum a significant event, with participation from professors, managers of a Fraunhofer Institute, and CEOs of innovative SMEs. The diverse gathering fostered an environment conducive to fruitful intercultural and interdisciplinary collaboration. Prof. Siemens and Ms. Anastasiia Sapeha were available for further inquiries within the IDEA.East project, with costs for flights, accommodation, and partial lodging covered for the participants.
