With an app for STEM enthusiasm
Smartphones and apps have become daily companions. The intoMINT 4.0 project is taking advantage of this realization to use an app similar to a casual game to encourage students to engage with STEM topics again and again.
The app is designed to suggest experiments, small projects, excursion destinations and the like from the various STEM fields to schoolgirls from year 8 onwards according to their age group, abilities and interests. Pupils' participation is supported by a commendation system that also highlights small successes and simultaneously supports a role model effect and recognition through a social network.
This principle of gamification is to be combined with the principle of personalized online advertising in order to integrate interest-based, personalized career and study advice, which should enable a better orientation in the later choice of career and studies.
The whole project is rounded off by various workshops for schoolgirls, which enable a stronger link between the digital world and real personal experience, as well as the involvement of important multipliers such as parents and teachers. The intoMINT 4.0 project will be scientifically monitored and evaluated in order to secure the findings on the success of the access methods and to develop recommendations for action for gender-sensitive study and career guidance.
