Motivation

The smart home of the future must be able to meet the needs of very different people. Situations such as networked living on a houseboat, without power sockets or in shared apartments for older people are conceivable. The project will use innovative participatory design methods to discuss and test such use cases with future users.

Goals and approach

In order to design the smart home of the future, users are invited to co-creation workshops in the futurehomestories project. The central focus here is on having an active say in the development of future technologies. Together with people from different walks of life, two cycles are used to work out which routines, experiences and wishes belong to their individual smart home. Creative ideas for the smart home are collected and published in a book of alternative futures. The project aims to adapt and expand methods of co-creation in order to increase the repertoire of integrated research. In close cooperation with the other projects of the Integrated Research Cluster, a method case and a manifesto for Integrated Research will be developed.

Innovations and perspectives

The new co-creation approaches can help to gain a better understanding of the living and design space of the smart home. They also open up ways in which ethical and legal stakeholders can participate in the co-creation process alongside citizens.
