For many prospective students, starting college brings new challenges. In mathematics in particular, it is often necessary to refresh and reinforce knowledge gained in high school. To make the transition to college easier, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences offers two types of preparatory courses in mathematics: The Institute for Medicine and Technology e. V. (IMT) offers interested students the opportunity to attend an in-person course on the Campus Köthen. The Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development on the Campus Bernburg provides an online course at a different time.

The courses are aimed at first-year students in all disciplines as well as anyone interested in refreshing their basic math skills. The in-person course will take place from August 17 to 21, 2026, at the Campus Köthen. The online course will take place from September 28 to October 2, 2026. In a total of 28 class hours for each course, fundamental mathematical topics will be covered and explored in depth.

The content includes, among others, basic arithmetic operations, equations and systems of equations, trigonometric functions, analytic geometry, functions, and differential and integral calculus. In addition, the fundamentals of vector calculus are taught. The goal of the course is to fill existing knowledge gaps and prepare participants as thoroughly as possible for the demands of college-level study.

Exercises at the high school graduation level are available on the respective websites for those interested. Anyone who finds these exercises difficult or who would like to specifically brush up on their knowledge before starting their studies will receive the appropriate support in the preparatory course.

The in-person course is organized by the Institute for Medicine & Technology e. V. at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and takes place in the Rotes Gebäude (Building 01 - Köthen) on the Campus Köthen. The participation fee is 15 euros. Registration is open until August 10, 2026, via email to gabriele.twieg@hs-anhalt.de. Participants will receive information about the exact venue, course times, and payment after registering.

Working professionals also have the option of applying to their employer for educational leave or time off under the Educational Leave Act.

The online course is organizedby Prof. Dr. habil. Friederike Paetz and takes place entirely online, with sessions scheduled in blocks during the morning hours. New students will learn using the digital learning platform Moodle, which is also used in all courses during their degree program. The course is free of charge. Registration can be completed using the registration form on the website www.hs-anhalt.de/vkm by September 22, 2026.
