A delegation of instructors, students and academic staff from the Media Technology department of the Department EMW made their way to Leipzig for the Media Days of Central Germany on April 2 and 3, 2025. The "Medientage Mitteldeutschland 2025" offered a wide range of panels, lectures and discussion rounds that dealt with current developments and future issues in the media landscape. Topics included the digital transformation of broadcasting, the use of artificial intelligence in media production, new business models for media companies and issues of media policy and regulation.
Our team represented Anhalt University of Applied Sciences with two application-oriented research projects that presented concrete technological solutions for current challenges in media production:
In the programme item "IP-Broadcast | Future-proof media production for sporting events", our students and instructors presented a concept for modernizing classic production infrastructures in the sports sector. The central idea is to relocate linear production processes to IP-based environments in compliance with the SMPTE 2110 standard. The solution presented focuses on the development of scalable, location-independent and resource-saving production systems that are characterized by a high level of integration into existing systems and the use of open source frameworks. In addition to technologies such as FFmpeg and CasparCG, an AI module based on YOLO was presented that analyzes image content in real time and provides metadata for further use in live production.
Our second project presented an innovative approach to the automated digitization and content indexing of analogue audiovisual content under the title "AI Media Library | Digitization of Analogue Films by Artificial Intelligence" . The core of the research is the development of an adaptive AI system that is capable of restoring analogue film formats, recognizing relevant content features and generating structured metadata. The application ranges from the detection of film settings to the identification of people and deepfake recognition. The aim is not only to preserve historical content, but also to make it accessible and usable in the long term through algorithmic analysis processes.
Subsequent discussions with representatives from broadcasting and media production provided valuable impetus for further application scenarios and opportunities for cooperation.
The participating students used the "Medientage Mitteldeutschland" event to follow the specialist presentations and to learn first-hand about new impulses for current developments in the media industry that go beyond their everyday studies. Participation offered them insights into the practical use of future-oriented technologies as well as media production and policy.
