Paul Pöhlitz is studying Biomedical Engineering (courses taught in English and German) at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. The Master's student was preparing for a very special event this week. Thanks to his outstanding achievements, he has been awarded a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship this year. He is not alone in this. A total of 37 committed students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences were honored. On November 6, 2024, professors and sponsors presented the scholarships at a ceremony in Köthen Castle.
For Paul, this is a vote of confidence. "Being selected shows me that my efforts are worthwhile and that my achievements are recognized. The Deutschlandstipendium gives me the freedom to concentrate fully on my studies."
From the winter semester 2024/25, he and the other scholarship holders from seven different departments will receive a grant of 300 euros per month. This year, 32 companies and institutions have agreed to create valuable free space for particularly committed students. For them, the festivities are the first opportunity to talk to their scholarship holders. This was also the case for Paul and his sponsor from Solvay Chemicals GmbH in Bernburg. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has been awarding the scholarship, which is funded in equal parts by the federal government and private sponsors, since 2011. This not only relieves the students financially. Their academic and social commitment is also recognized. The additional income makes Paul's everyday life as a student easier: "I now have more time to devote to my studies and prepare intensively for my Master's thesis and upcoming examinations." He used to work in the supermarket. "Now I only work a few hours per week per semester as a campus ambassador and represent Anhalt University of Applied Sciences at events and trade fairs."
The ceremony to hand over the Germany Scholarships began with an exclusive exchange between sponsors and scholarship holders over coffee and cake. The official supporting program started at 4:30 pm. Lars Duwe from "talentfab" spoke on the topic "Bring it on - build your career yourself" about individual opportunities to grow up. This was followed by the ceremonial presentation of the certificates. "The Deutschlandstipendium not only helps me with my studies, but also gives me the opportunity to make valuable contacts with potential employers. After my Master's, I would like to go into research and development. The scholarship gives me the confidence to follow this path and to build up important networks in industry right now."
