From June 5 to 7, 2026, Bernburg will be the venue for the 24th Saxony-Anhalt Day, which will be held under the motto "Where Saxony-Anhalt meets" celebrates the diversity, innovative strength and community of the federal state. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is participating with a varied program in the Wachgasse and invites all visitors to experience science and creativity in a special way.
With nine creative workshops and an outdoor area, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences shows how innovation, sustainability and community come together. At FreiraumWerk, everything revolves around landscape architecture and nature conservation: visitors can take part in drawing workshops, try out a planting game or explore planned green spaces using augmented reality. Those interested in innovative products will find creative ideas such as algae liqueurs, algae sheep's milk ice cream, Germanic beer or crispy algae crispies in the workshop for innovative foods and can touch and enjoy science.
The "Zeitzer Zimmer" project in the Design workshop presents sustainable furniture prototypes and invites visitors to try out simple furniture techniques for themselves under the motto "eDIY - educated Do It Yourself". In the Construction workshop, 18 years of international student involvement are presented, including projects such as a kindergarten in South Africa and health stations in Haiti. The current project takes visitors to the west coast of Africa. Technology enthusiasts will get their money's worth in the Computer Science with Taste workshop: there are VR experiences, creative programming and an AI quiz in which you have to distinguish between real and artificially generated content. A special highlight will also be presented with "VR meets Biotechnology", where visitors can experience biotechnological processes in a virtual biotech house and then taste a specially produced "Caro bubble yoghurt".
The Agriculture and Viticulture workshop also offers insights into current developments: Exhibits will be used to present so-called pseudo-cereals such as quinoa, amaranth and chia, which are becoming increasingly important as niche crops. Tastings of corresponding products will give visitors the opportunity to familiarize themselves with new nutritional trends. The university's teaching and experimental vineyard will also be on display. Visitors can taste wines from the 2025 vintage as well as wine spritzers and learn more about viticulture in the lower Saale valley.
In the "Science - and me?!" workshop, scientists will be able to talk to members of the public. At themed tables on areas such as energy and the environment, society and work, AI and technology, art and culture as well as health and nutrition, visitors can contribute their own questions and exchange ideas. Exhibits and illustrative materials support the discussions and make it clear what role science plays in everyday life and in society.
In the H2HUB workshop, Jules Verne's dream comes true - "How water becomes electricity". Practical experiments with small electrolysers show how water is separated into its components and the secret of hydrogen is discovered. The hydrogen is then used in a fuel cell to generate electricity and run a small motor. It will be demonstrated how surplus electricity can be stored and used later.
The workshop of internationality invites you on a journey around the world: students of the Studienkolleg present their home countries with flags, videos and sweets and anyone who wants to can test their international knowledge with a quiz.
The "KompetenzGrün" project awaits on the outdoor area with a hands-on activity: here, individual seed mixtures can be put together from regional wild plants. There will also be a demonstration of how to create insect-friendly green spaces. In addition, the "Make Science" is moored at the jetty and offers further exciting insights into the world of science.
