As part of the Open Forum on Artificial Intelligence, Adrian Schröder presented a forward-looking approach to AI-assisted literature review. In a presentation entitled “AI-Assisted Systematic Literature Review – Between Aspiration and Reality”, he outlined the current state of his research and development.
The presentation focused on:
- an overview of the current market for literature analysis tools,
- proven dos and don’ts for using large language models (LLMs) in academic literature reviews,
- as well as a practice-oriented approach that is continually refined and takes into account methodological challenges, ethical considerations and the environmental footprint of these procedures.
A key conclusion:
AI-assisted literature review can effectively support the research process – but it does not replace it. It should be judged not against an ideal, but against the realistic status quo.

The initial results of this research will soon be presented on the international stage – at the 29th International Conference on Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information & Engineering Systems.
