- Stay calm and level-headed.

- Avoid any escalations.
- Do not attempt to handle the situation by yourself. Contact the campus security office or the emergency management team immediately.

What can managers do?

- Only inform your staff and students after consulting and coordinating with the emergency management team.
- Always refer press inquiries to the Anhalt University press spokesperson (Pressesprecherin).
In the event of an acute threat

What should you do if an armed person is in the building or if shots are heard?
- Lock yourself in a room and keep away from windows and doors.
- Do not attract the attention of the perpetrator, put your phone on silent mode.
- Or – if possible: Leave the building immediately. Note: Only leave the building/scene if you can be relatively certain that you will not encounter the perpetrator. Caution: In a shooting situation, the sound of gunshots may be reflected on surfaces and give a false indication of where the shots are coming from. Ensure not to walk towards the source of danger.
- Once you are safe, call the police immediately (110).
- Warn people in the relevant buildings to lock themselves in and to wait for the all-clear signal without putting themselves in danger.
- Inform the campus security office (Wache) immediately.
If you feel unsafe on campus
If your feeling of security is affected by certain circumstances in the surrounding area, please contact the facility management (Technische Verwaltung) of Anhalt University. This may involve the following:
- Defective lamps and light sources
- Lack of lighting systems
- Bushes that are too high
- Poorly lit paths
