How the emergency management team works

The emergency management team should be informed if someone at our university is the victim of threats, stalking or violence. It does not matter whether they are students, staff or other persons. We will then get in touch with those affected by the emergency.

You can also contact our team if other internal institutions, such as a trusted person, or external institutions, such as the police or fire department, are already involved.

The first step

In an initial assessment, we discuss whether there is a safety risk for those affected and, if so, what the risk is, as well as the level of potential exposure. If necessary, a case management is then developed, and those affected are always informed accordingly. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for this type of case management; instead, pragmatic and flexible steps are taken to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of those affected in the best way possible.

Possible strategies

Strategies include, for example, behavioral counseling for those affected, creating a safety plan, taking legal action or involving the police. In order to provide the best possible support even in more severe cases, the emergency management team has also established networks with institutions outside of Anhalt University, such as psychosocial services and the police.

Defining clear boundaries

The emergency management team should also be informed if a member of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences becomes conspicuous through threats, violent fantasies or other transgressive behavior. In this case, too, it is important to take a close look and determine the underlying reasons for the conspicuous actions.

People who stalk or harass others are themselves often in need of support and help. We also take care of this by putting them in touch with the relevant counseling services. At the same time, authorities must clearly define boundaries to stop the threatening behavior.

Emergency management ensures that those affected can always turn to someone they can trust. Discretion, fairness, and the privacy protection of all those involved are of utmost importance, as is the safety of all members of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.
