Data Science (M.Sc.)

Department of Computer Science and Languages

Degree program structure

The program is structured according to the following module plan. Since this program is open to bachelor's graduates of all disciplines, the first semester includes the fundamentals of computer science necessary for the degree program. These classes are only offered in the winter semester, so it is only possible to begin the degree program in the winter. Building on this, various modules from the areas of data analysis, data management and data communication will then be taught in the 2nd and 3rd semester. Students can choose elective modules according to their interests. In the form of two projects, students will then apply their acquired knowledge in a practical manner.

Students with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science do not need these foundational classes and may enroll in the 3-semester program if proof is provided of having obtained 210 credits. In such cases, the first semester is omitted from the module plan. Since the 2nd and 3rd semesters of the module plan can be studied in any order, it is possible for these students to start their program in any semester. The semester sequence is 2-3-4 or 3-2-4 in these cases.

Lectures will be taught in German. However, individual modules may also be offered in English. It is not possible to study exclusively in English. Further details about the modules can be found in the module description handbook.
