InterGrad-EGD

The right to award doctorates opened up exciting new opportunities for the Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Saxony-Anhalt and has strengthened the region as a center of excellent science and innovative research. At Anhalt University, doctoral centers have pooled expertise in graduate education and provide support in pursuing doctoral projects, some centers in joint co-operation with our partners Harz University, Merseburg University, and Magdeburg-Stendal University.

A new step forward has been taken in 2024, when the four UAS in Saxony-Anhalt have joined forces to promote international doctorates with European cooperation partners. The European Green Deal (EGD) was selected as a scientific common ground, as all participating doctoral centers are already working on innovative research projects and topics in this important European strategy with their scientific profiles. The research work supported within the framework of dissertations is intended to sharpen and expand this profile supported by the International Graduate Academy - InterGrad.

The research landscape at the four participating universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt is diverse. With regard to European integration, an important and urgent background topic can be identified which all participating universities, their doctoral centers and their researchers find relations to: the European Green Deal (EGD). In EGD, all 27 EU member states have committed themselves to developing the EU into the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Various political initiatives relate to areas such as climate, environment, industry, agriculture and the implementation of a just transition process. The path of green change implies a holistic, sustainable and cross-sectoral approach that aims to promote a modern economy and a fair society locally, regionally and nationally.

Ministry of Science supports International Graduate Academy with six million euros

Science thrives on international exchange. The four state universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt therefore want to set up an International Graduate Academy with 22 doctoral positions. The future doctoral students are to conduct research on European climate policy in cooperation with foreign partner universities, thereby strengthening cross-border discourse and networking.
