Personal Profile
Jihane, how did you end up studying in a dual program?
Before I decided to do a dual study programme, I was enrolled at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OVGU). During my time there, however, I realised that the purely theoretical training did not completely suit me. I had the feeling that the direct application of theoretical knowledge in practice was missing and that I was therefore unable to gain important experience. At the same time, I had to work alongside my studies in order to earn a living. This double burden was not only very demanding in terms of time, but also meant that I was able to devote less time and energy to my studies than necessary. To make sure that the pharmaceutical and medical technology sector was the right one for me, I took on a part-time job as a research assistant at IDT Biologika. This experience gave me the opportunity to get to know the company and the field of activity better and to gain my first practical experience. Thanks to this job, I realised that I wanted to work in this field and develop further.
How did you find your partner company?
During my research into study alternatives, I came across the dual study programme model. The opportunity to combine theory and practice seemed ideal to me in order to gain the desired practical relevance and at the same time be financially secure. My work at IDT Biologika and the feedback from colleagues and mentors reinforced my decision. The decision to switch to a dual study programme was therefore a logical step that enabled me to pursue my academic and professional goals more efficiently.
After a few months in the Hiwi-position, I asked my boss whether there was a possibility of getting a dual study place at IDT Biologika. After a detailed discussion in which all the details of the dual study programme and my future tasks were explained to me, I was convinced that this was the right step for me.
What do you particularly like about your study program?
The dual study program offers many advantages, which I was able to experience first-hand. One of the biggest advantages is the seamless combination of theory and practice. During my theoretical phases at the university, I can apply the knowledge I have acquired directly in the practical phases at the company. This continuous link between theoretical learning and practical implementation allows me to develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter and to anchor what I have learnt in a sustainable way. Another significant advantage is the extensive professional experience that I am already gaining during my studies.

Being involved in the company right from the start of the dual study programme has enabled me to develop practical skills and gain valuable insights into the world of work. Many employers value the practical expertise that dual study programme students bring with them and I feel well prepared for starting my career later on. An additional advantage of the dual study programme is the financial independence. Thanks to the remuneration I receive from the company, I am able to earn a living without having to work a part-time job.
This allows me to concentrate fully on my studies and my professional development. In addition, I have built up a valuable professional network by working closely with my colleagues and mentors. These contacts have already proven to be extremely useful and will certainly be of great benefit to me in my future career. Especially in the pharmaceutical technology industry, where I work, such networks are indispensable.
What are your future prospects?
The prospect of a good chance of being taken on after graduation was also a decisive factor in my choice. Many companies train dual students in order to take them on after their studies. This offers a high level of job security and makes it much easier to start your career. As I already know the company and its internal processes, I am confident that my chances of being taken on after graduation will increase.
The practical training is a great advantage, especially in technical and scientific subjects. I can work on current projects and develop valuable practical skills that are required in industry. This not only makes my training more interesting, but also more relevant for my future career.
In addition, the dual study programme offers a clearly structured course of study. The alternation between theoretical and practical phases follows a fixed schedule, which promotes efficient working methods and good time management. I have learnt to complete my tasks within the given time frame and to make the best use of my time.
The diverse challenges have improved my self-organisation, communication skills and teamwork. These soft skills are indispensable in the modern working world and contribute significantly to my career development.
Overall, the dual study programme has exceeded my expectations and offers numerous benefits that have helped me to progress both academically and professionally.
