Monastery Christmas

Every year in December, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences invites residents and guests of the city of Bernburg to an international monastery Christmas in Bernburg Monastery, Klostergasse 7a. The festival is a cultural highlight in the run-up to Christmas and impresses above all with the flair within the old monastery walls.

On Saturday, Santas and fairy-tale characters from all over the world arrive in decorated boats on the banks of the Saale in Bernburg at 12.30 pm sharp. Everyone can witness the arrival of the colorful entourage at the pedestrian bridge between the Altem Markt and Saalplatz. The parade then takes visitors across the Alter Markt to the monastery, where the two-day Christmas program is ceremoniously opened within its historic walls.

What is there to experience? The medieval monastery walls form a fantastic backdrop for music, dance and fairytale performances. International Christmas rites packaged in cultural programs provide insights into the Christmas traditions of different cultures. A craftsmen's and farmers' market in keeping with the ambience offers art and Christmas products from domestic and foreign designers and producers. And of course there is a variety of food and drink: traditional Christmas, regional or simple classic dishes. There is something for every taste.

And last but not least, there will also be lots of hustle and bustle for the children: Presents, dancing, singing, playing and crafting will create the right anticipation for the coming Christmas.
