The large brick house on Wolfgangsstraße stood empty for twelve years. The ravages of time gnawed away at it. It took and still takes many hours per week per semester and a visionary eye to turn the former Lazarett and school building into what Prof. Brigitte Hartwig sees in this building: A place for a new reality, a part-time job, a meaningful task, a professional perspective - the VorOrt Haus means something different for everyone.
The professor of communication design and her VorOrt association, together with students and Dessau residents, have made this house their mission: they work and create, organize concerts, readings and encounters. This is one of the reasons why students and Dessau residents stay "on site".
There is potential for development and the opportunity to get actively involved in the student city and make a difference. There are many opportunities to get involved. One of these is the annual "schaubau summer school". One topic: "What can we do to show how attractive working and living in a medium-sized city like Dessau can be?" attracted design students from all over Europe.
