When Magdeburg’s Elbauenpark transforms into a vast interactive experience centered on Agriculture, food, and rural life for the State Harvest Festival on September 19 and 20, 2026, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences will be there as well. Under the overarching theme “Valuable Agriculture—Creating Value for Everyone,” the Department of Agriculture, Ecotrophology and Landscape Development will be showcasing its work in the crop production exhibition area. In a pavilion near the lake stage, the Department will showcase projects, degree programs, and results from practical teaching and applied research at the Campus Bernburg on both days.
From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, visitors can stop by the university’s booth to learn about the diversity of academic programs and research at the Campus Bernburg.
More Diversity with Native Wild Plants
The department demonstrates how research can contribute to greater biodiversity in a practical way through the “KompetenzGrün” research project. The focus is on nature-oriented greening, biodiversity, and the use of regional wild plants. At the State Harvest Festival, visitors will learn how native wild plants can be used to create greater biodiversity in gardens, on balconies, and in public green spaces. To complement this, the university will be handing out seed packets containing regional wild plant seeds.
A Degree Program to Try Out
From cultivation in the experimental field to food processing: At the booth, visitors can experience firsthand how practical the Department’s academic programs and applied research are. Visitors can sample Strenzfeld Campus honey from the Lehrimkerei (Building 29a - Bernburg) and the honey lab, as well as lupine hummus developed in student projects. Your own taste buds will be put to the test: Your own taste buds will be put to the test: Students will present colorful popcorn colored using natural pigments derived from green, red, and blue microalgae. Do the different colors actually taste different? You can find out at the booth. This also offers an opportunity to talk with students and staff about studying in the Department.
World Openers – Seven People Who Enrich Our University
Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is as diverse as the colorful popcorn: More than 2,700 international students, as well as staff and lecturers from all over the world, enrich our academic programs, research, and community. The latest issue of the university magazine “Einblick” highlights what the university would be missing without them through seven personal stories. These stories will be highlighted at the State Harvest Festival through a postcard campaign. University members will be at the booth to chat with visitors and explain why a global outlook is indispensable to the university. Copies of the magazine will also be available to take home.
