On the third weekend of Advent, December 13 and 14, 2025, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences is inviting visitors of all ages to the Kloster Bernburg (Building 27 - Bernburg) for the 21st time. With an international program, an atmospheric Christmas market and various creative workshops, the festival in the historic rooms of the former Servite monastery is a pre-Christmas highlight in the region.
The merry spectacle begins with the arrival of the various Christmas figures on the Saale on December 13, 2025 at 12:30 pm. Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Sinterclaas with his zwarten Pieten, Papa Noel, Father Frost and the Snowflake as well as well-known fairytale characters will arrive at the pedestrian bridge on five boats. Each of these Christmas characters reflects the culture and tradition of the country in which they are celebrated. Behind the magnificent costumes are students, professors and employees of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. They also come from all over the world and underline the international character of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. Welcomed by a large audience, they parade from the Alter Markt to Kloster Bernburg (Building 27 - Bernburg) together with vintage tractors from the Strenzfeld farmers and a colorful procession.
Once there, Christmas stalls with ceramics, liqueurs and other lovingly handcrafted goods invite you to linger and stroll around. Musical performances, storytelling, craft stalls and theater performances create a festive atmosphere. International students take guests on a journey of cultures. Kindergarten groups and various choirs show off their skills and present their Christmas program. Food and drink are also catered for: the aromas of the barbecue and mulled wine are the best signposts here. If you are looking for a special drop, you will find it at the university stand. There you can enjoy a delicious wine spritzer made from wines from the Waladala training and experimental vineyard. There will also be a schnapps from the university's "Spirit of Science" series.
Call to bakeries and butchers in and around the Salzland district
At the annual Klosterweihnacht, bakeries and butchers compete for the best stollen and the best bratwurst. All businesses from the Salzland district and beyond can take part.
