It was the perfect opportunity to take part in an industrial research project," says Nelson Alejandro Poveda from Ecuador, describing his opportunity to study on the master's degree program "Food Science, Technology and Business" (BIFTEC) at three different locations in Europe. This outstanding European degree program has been preparing students for the upcoming challenges in the food industry, Food Technology and marketing in international companies since 2015.

Whether from Ecuador, India or Mexico: demand from all over the world is high. Students from 43 nations have already taken part in the program, which has been offered for four years. A welcome sign for those responsible. After all, future issues in food science and Economics can no longer be solved at a national level alone.

Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Universidade Catolica Portuguesa (Portugal) and KU Leuven (Belgium) have therefore developed a program to promote innovation and technology in the food sector at an international level. The growing number of applicants shows that the university partners are on the right track. Currently, 45 young people are taking part in the European program. They live and study in Ghent, Porto and Köthen/Bernburg.

In the lectures, practical courses, excursions and presentations, the technological and Business Studies knowledge is conveyed in English in a way that everyone can understand, so that they can use their specific knowledge to offer consumers all over the world food with sensory and qualitative conviction. Intercultural, scientific and productive experiences enrich the course. "There are some industries that work closely with Anhalt University of Applied Sciences because of the high-tech equipment and excellent research conditions," says Nelson Alejandro Poveda. One of the main reasons why he completed his lab and Master's thesis in Köthen.

Alumni Poveda recommends the degree program to interested parties as "the key to opening your horizons, making good professional contacts and starting a successful future in the food industry." The still young program will grow over the next few years. The career prospects are already great: after the two-year Master's program, graduates have the best chances of working on the job market or doing a doctorate to solve international food issues around the world.
