An appointment procedure cannot be compared with other application processes. For example, you should expect a much longer selection process (up to two years) and some differences to the normal application process. If you have any questions, please contact anne-marie.becker(at)hs-anhalt.de
We have put together a selection of relevant tips so that you don't forget anything when applying for a professorship:
There are a number of things you can do to increase your chances of being offered a HAW professorship. Sharpen both your academic profile and your experience in Economics. Teaching experience can be gained through lectureships, deputy and visiting professorships, etc.
You can attend specialist congresses and conferences to keep up to date with the latest scientific developments in your field. Networking with other academics is always helpful and possible through membership of networks, specialist societies and professional associations.
Get to know the general conditions at HAW before applying. For example, research possible orientations (mission statement) or future plans of the respective faculty or university. This will enable you to tailor your application accordingly.
Take sufficient time for the teaching concept, as this is an important factor in the selection process. The later teaching sample must also be well considered.
The application should include
- Cover letter
- curriculum vitae
- Usually a research and teaching concept
- Academic certificates and diplomas (high school diploma, vocational training, degree, doctorate, job-related references)
In some cases, special references are also required.
Do not forget
- List of publications, literature, lectures
- Overview of previous teaching and research experience (incl. precise details)
- Information on projects, third-party funding (including unapproved), etc.
- Supervised doctorates, theses
- Offices held in professional societies or similar
- Other expertise, e.g. management or project experience
Due to the abundance of information, a clear structure of the "application portfolio" is essential. Even if it is submitted digitally, as is the case at the HSA. It must be possible to enter the necessary information quickly and correctly. Both your academic career and your practical experience must be described in detail. Concentrate on the information that is relevant to the position.
Bear in mind that not all members of the appointment committee will be involved in your topic (e.g. students, external experts and Gender Equality Representatives). It is therefore worthwhile remaining comprehensible and not defining the field of work too narrowly.
The view of a third party can be very helpful here. The Hochschullehrerbund also offers seminars on the topic of applying for a professorship.
