Aptitude exam

A prerequisite for enrolling in the degree program Integrated Design is proof of an artistically intellectual aptitude relevant to the area of study. It is only possible to study after passing the aptitude exam.

After submitting the application documents, applicants will be sent instructions for a task that must be completed and submitted by a set deadline. The assessment of this task determines which applicants are invited to participate in the aptitude exam in Dessau.

On the examination date, applicants must bring a portfolio with examples of their work that demonstrates visual realization of their intellectual and creative potential. Applicants can choose their own artistic materials and media but should aim for as much diversity as possible, e.g. drawings, photographs, animation, sculptures, paintings and objects (three-dimensional work must be submitted as a photograph). The size of the portfolio is DIN A2.

In the assessment process, the applicants will be given tasks from various areas of design that enable the examiners to get an impression of the applicant’s abilities in perception, conceptualization and presentation. These tasks are created by the Board of Examiners in advance. At the end of the assessment, a discussion on design is held with the applicants.
