Nutrition education for pediatricians and cooperating health professionals
Project description
The project involves analyzing the current state of nutrition education, both in terms of specialist knowledge and advisory skills, in various health professions within pediatric medicine. The aim is to identify starting points for improving the teaching and implementation of skills relating to the nutritional knowledge and behavior of children and adolescents, which can contribute to healthier growth and development.
State of research
Obesity and nutrition-related diseases are on the rise among children and adolescents, primarily due to unhealthy lifestyles. A healthy diet can contribute to the prevention and treatment of diseases. Healthcare professionals such as pediatricians, midwives, and nurses can help promote healthy eating, but they also need specific skills such as technical, methodological, and social-communicative skills. However, medical training worldwide contains very different and mostly insufficient amounts of nutrition education. More comprehensive nutrition education and better implementation methods can help increase confidence in dealing with nutrition-related issues and thus promote healthier eating habits from the outset.
