Information on the project steps
Subsection is dedicated to establishing a theoretical basis. The objectives are to specify the target group relevant to the project and to draft a catalog of criteria.
The project analyzes nutrition education in various medical professions working with children and adolescents. The target group is heterogeneous, so it must be defined according to qualifications, place and scope of work, and other relevant factors. A theoretical basis will be constructed to serve as the foundation for drafting a catalog of criteria. On this basis, criteria will be evaluated and measurable targets derived.
Subsection 1 determines the status quo in initial, continuing, and advanced training for the relevant healthcare professions in pediatric and adolescent medicine. This involves identifying and analyzing the nutrition education content of initial, continuing, and advanced training courses relevant to the target group, thereby supplementing the list of criteria created at T0.
Research will be conducted into training, continuing education, and professional development opportunities for the target group by contacting relevant institutions and structuring the results in a matrix. The aim is to collaborate with various professional associations and to distribute the results in a targeted manner across rural and urban areas as well as locations in socially disadvantaged areas. The relevant curricula will be analyzed on the basis of the list of criteria and supplemented with the results.
Subsection 2 determines the status quo in terms of knowledge and application, focusing on nutritional competence and factors influencing the target group.
The complexity of the task requires the recording of different levels of competence and their concrete application in the patient situation. A multimodal survey with a qualitative basis (n = 60) and a subsequent quantitative online survey (n = 600) is planned. The expert discussions will focus on topics such as existing nutritional knowledge, applied teaching methods, and individual needs. In preparation for the online survey, 60 expert discussions will be conducted and documented consultation material will be analyzed. The data will be used to expand the criteria catalog that has been created to date.
A target/actual comparison is carried out in the third subsection. Based on the target values established in subsection 0 and the results of subsections 1 and 2, deviations from the target state and thus the differentiated need for education, training, and continuing education or necessary changes are derived. A comparison is made between the existing and necessary provision of nutrition education content in training, continuing education, and professional development. The ultimate goal is to create an overview of target group-specific needs.
Subsection 4 is devoted to the derivation of target group-specific approaches, which are to form the result of the research project. Target group-specific measures are derived for the identified deficits or areas in need of optimization, which are then fed back to the respective target groups and modified if necessary. For the initial measures derived, rough didactic concepts will be developed and integrative approaches identified. The aim is to create a target group-specific catalog for addressing existing qualification gaps in the context of nutritional counseling by health professionals, based on initial concepts for suitable measures and their integration into existing approaches.
