A group outing to the Dessau Mausoleum to see the performance “Streams of Life.” A flow of melodies from opera, operetta, and musicals. Human culture has developed along major rivers. They are and have been the lifeblood of generations. Along the way, we encounter the most diverse people our globe has produced—sometimes cheerful and happy, sometimes wistful, sometimes exuberant—but always entertaining.

At the 3rd Oncology Patient Day, we learned a great deal about cancer and the therapeutic and diagnostic options available in this field at the Dessau Municipal Hospital. Through presentations and at information booths, experts provided insights into medical advancements in this field. The guided tours of the laboratory, the oncology department, and the operating room were also very interesting.

On June 10, we attended the event "Back Check-up: What Your Back Is Trying to Tell You" on the topic of back health at the Dessau Municipal Hospital. The presentations focused on assessing back pain, modern treatment methods for degenerative conditions and instability, as well as new options for chronic pain.

Afterward, we held our regular class in the hospital’s training room. Thanks to the hospital for the good collaboration!

As part of our cooperation with the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, we attended the ballet performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake on May 17 and experienced an impressive afternoon.

We regularly integrate medical events into our lessons. This time, the topic was lung health. The focus was on lung function, the structure of the organ, possible diseases, their causes and, of course, the topic of smoking and keeping the organ healthy.

What is sepsis? Why is it so dangerous? And what late and long-term consequences can occur? Prof. Dr. Michael Bauer, Director of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Jena University Hospital, answered these and many other questions. He also discussed the connection between a healthy microbiome and the development of an infection.

On March 4, our course attended the "Medicine on Wednesday" event at the Clinic for Plastic and Hand Surgery on the topic of "Help for the hands - the joy of gripping again".

The presentations highlighted common hand pains, such as rhizarthrosis with conservative and surgical treatment approaches, as well as the fast finger and its treatment. The final presentation emphasized the importance of quality of life as a criterion for surgical measures and underlined the potential of modern hand surgery for restoring mobility.

As a future doctor, what do I need to know about the social insurance system in Germany? How many days of sick leave can I take retroactively? How do I fill prescriptions correctly? These and other questions were the focus of our workshop. In cooperation with BARMER.

We learned a lot about important neurological diseases, which affect around 60 percent of the population in Europe and Germany and are one of the most common causes of disability and premature death. The explanations of Guillain-Barré syndrome, in which the immune system attacks the nerves and symptoms such as tingling or muscle weakness progress rapidly, were particularly exciting. The focus was also on Parkinson's disease with typical tremors and slow movements due to changes in the brain, as well as therapies that make everyday life easier and strokes as an emergency in which every minute counts.

With medical games, lots of fun and conviviality, we ended the course and the joint learning 2025 on December 19. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and will see you again in January!

Over two days, we dealt with difficult communication situations in everyday medical practice. In addition to the theoretical basics of selective perception, active listening and differentiating between wishes, pretexts and needs, we also tried out various communication situations in practice.

The excursion was a valuable learning experience for the participants of the Profi+Med project. Under the theme "Relapses, consequences, pain, neurodegeneration", the language course participants of the Profi+Med and students of the FITTER program, especially from the Master Biomedical Engineering (courses taught in English and German), had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the latest developments in neurology. Through the exchange with leading scientists, the participants were able to expand their knowledge and gain valuable insights for their future scientific work. This event underlined the importance of hands-on experience and strengthened the link between theoretical knowledge and practical application within the project.

As part of the lessons, we organized a workshop on emergency medicine on 17.11.2025 in cooperation with the DRK Dessau. It was particularly important for the prospective doctors to learn which competencies must not be exceeded as long as they do not have a license to practice medicine in Germany and what means can still be used to provide help.

On September 10, our group attended the "Oncology Patient Day" at the Dessau Municipal Hospital. The event focused on patient education: four patients from the Prostate Cancer Center spoke openly and personally about their experiences with medical consultations - from moments of clarity to moments of uncertainty. It was particularly impressive how the patients described what really matters to them when it comes to information and how important mutual understanding is. This allowed our group to gain valuable first-hand insights and integrate them directly into the lessons

On 25 June 2025, a group from our course took part in the colloquium on gynaecology and uro-oncology, an advanced training event organized by the Tumor Center Dessau. The focus was on current developments in tumor diagnostics and innovative drug therapy approaches. The participants gained valuable insights into the latest scientific findings and were able to expand their specialist knowledge in a practical way.

On June 11, 2025, we had the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of Ms. Hintze from the bvd Care Association Dessau. In her practical lecture, she clearly explained the topics of living wills, advance directives, and power of attorney. Using numerous examples, she highlighted the importance of these issues both for our professional lives and for us personally.

On May 26 and 28, 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Konradi from the ME/CFS self-help group. In her engaging lectures, she provided us with insights into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), as well as the topics of Long COVID and Post-Vac Syndrome. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Konradi for her commitment and the practical information that broadened our perspective on these complex medical conditions.

On March 12, 2025, course participants attended a session on endoprostheses at the Dessau Municipal Hospital. They discussed the challenges of revision arthroplasty as well as the possibilities in microbiological, laboratory, and nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapy.

In engaging lectures, various rare medical conditions were presented and current medical findings discussed. The event also provided a valuable platform for exchange between medical professionals, patients, and support groups. Patients vividly shared their experiences, helping to raise awareness among doctors and medical staff about the often unspecific symptoms of rare diseases. An important day for increased awareness, networking, and mutual understanding!
