How can we make our landscapes fit for the future? And what role does the digital world play in this? These questions are the focus of the 26th International Conference for Digital Landscape Architecture (DLA), which will take place at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau from June 4 to 7, 2025. Under the motto "Collaboration", the university is inviting experts, students and interested parties to explore the opportunities and challenges of digital landscape architecture - in person or online.
The focus is on digital approaches that integrate participation and co-design into planning processes. Sensor technology and so-called "responsive landscapes" that adapt to changing environmental conditions are just as much a part of the program as resilient landscapes in the face of global change and issues of disaster prevention. How can digital tools help to tackle such complex tasks? Technologies such as UAV imaging (drones), remote sensing, geodesign and algorithmic design open up new possibilities in planning and implementation. Landscape and building data modelling (LIM + BIM), visualization, animation and mixed reality (VR, AR) will also be discussed. A particular focus is on the influence of artificial intelligence on landscape architecture. Time and again, the central question is: How can landscape architecture actively respond to social and ecological developments?
The conference begins on June 4 with practice-oriented workshops that show how digital tools can be used in practice - for example to reduce CO₂ in cities or to mitigate urban heat islands. Other topics include environmental and ecological simulation models, generative AI in planning, sustainable design with digital methods and the intelligent use of GIS and spatial thinking. The use of Vectorworks Landmark will also be presented. Keynote speeches by international experts will follow on June 5 and 6, opening up new perspectives and inviting dialog. Finally, on June 7, there will be the opportunity to experience the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom as part of an excursion.
