Karriereservice für Studierende

Do you have doubts about the course of study you have chosen? Are you wondering whether your studies are still right for you?

Doubts about your chosen field of study or about studying in general are not unusual. Especially at the beginning, the worries are often great. The subjects and contents of classes and seminars sometimes turn out to be different from the expectations you had when you started at the university. The routines don't seem to settle in, and when your fellow students seem easy and relaxed, you quickly start to think things over. Doubts about your studies arise. There are basically three types of doubt:

  • doubts about one's own skills
  • questioning the past and/or future phase of life and study
  • vacillation in decision-making processes

If you have difficulties in your academic or private environment, you can seek support from various counseling centers. Do not hesitate and make a personal counseling appointment. The individual conversations are familiar and specific to your current life situation.

Counselling network Queraufstieg: networked advice on the subject of dropping out in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony

The "Queraufstieg" counselling network is the first digital contact point for young people from the four participating federal states who have doubts about their studies or have already dropped out. They receive information, orientation and inspiration for professional reorientation, among other things in the stories about dropouts on the web portal at www.queraufstieg.de, on Instagram or in the dropout podcast. Through the web portal, dropouts and those who have doubts about their studies can also find the right free counselling service in Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt or Lower Saxony to support them in the decision-making process. In this way, they can discover their strengths and the career path that suits them best - whether with a degree or an apprenticeship.

Dropping out of university wasn't the easiest thing to do, but in retrospect it was probably the best decision for me at the time.

Stefan Luthe - former student Bachelor Media Technology

Doubt is not uncommon...dropping out?

Stefan Luthe:

"Due to my failed exams in mathematics, I decided with a heavy heart to drop out of my studies in media technology. But what was I supposed to do? Were the semesters at the university in vain?

By taking into account my previous achievements at the university, I was able to obtain a Chamber of Industry and Commerce degree. I completed this three-year training programme in eight months. I did not have to attend vocational school during this time. In addition to the final exams, I only had to complete a practical assignment. After successfully passing both performance components, I graduated as an event technology specialist.

With some distance, the time spent studying was not wasted time, as I was able to have many achievements credited and thus shorten my training. I am glad that universities and chambers have found a way to include achievements from my studies.
