Data Protection Officer

Data Protection at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences

The Data Protection Officer (DPO) is the contact person for all members of Anhalt University regarding issues related to the handling of personal data. His tasks are derived from Article 39 of the GDPR.

These include, among others:

  • Education and Consultation: Contact person for all university members concerning personal data;
  • Monitoring Compliance: Ensuring compliance with the GDPR and other data protection regulations;
  • Consultation: Providing advice in connection with data protection impact assessments;
  • Cooperation with Supervisory Authority: Collaborating with the supervisory authority.

The DPO is bound by confidentiality. Specifically, he is obligated to maintain confidentiality regarding the identity of the data subject as well as circumstances that allow conclusions to be drawn about the data subject, unless he is released from this obligation by the data subject. Employees can generally contact the Data Protection Officer without following the official channels, even if the matter does not concern their own.

The DPO assesses all issues solely based on the law. In particular, he operates independently in performing his advisory and control activities without instructions on whether or how facts should be examined or assessed. To fulfill his tasks, the DPO has the right to inspect processes involving the processing of personal data.
