Psychological Counselling for Students
Sometimes we just need someone to talk to, maybe because studies are overwhelming, because relationships are causing problems, or because of stress or anxiety. In its health management system, Anhalt University offers its students a safe space for working through these and other problems confidentially.

FAQ
At the first appointment, we will first inform you about the general conditions of our counseling (appointment scheduling, confidentiality, etc.). Then we will focus on your concerns. Together, we will analyze your situation, develop an understanding of your life circumstances and your problem, and, if necessary, come up with initial approaches and recommendations for further steps.
You don't need to be able to answer this question to come to our counseling service. If you feel that counseling with us could help you, don't hesitate to contact us. Even if you are still unsure whether you “really need” counseling, you are welcome to get in touch with us. Most people hesitate for a long time before seeking help for mental health issues—but problems and stress can be resolved more easily the sooner help is sought.

All psychological counselors are bound by the legal duty of confidentiality under Section 203 of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Third parties will not be informed that you are or were receiving counseling from us.
Information may only be shared with contact persons within the university (e.g., the Examination Office, SSC) or outside the university if you request this and have expressly released us from our legal duty of confidentiality in writing.
There are only two exceptions to the duty of confidentiality:
1) If there is an acute and significant danger to yourself or others, the duty of confidentiality must be broken to protect those seeking advice or other people (e.g., to the police or emergency doctor). Otherwise, the counselors would be guilty of failure to render assistance.
2) If those seeking advice report during the consultation that they are planning serious crimes (e.g., murder, manslaughter, robbery, arson) and the crimes can still be prevented by reporting these plans.
Please contact us as early as possible if you realize that your appointment is no longer convenient.
This will help us to find a new appointment for you as soon as possible and keep the waiting time for other students as short as possible.
Please also let us know if you no longer wish to attend an appointment (e.g., because you have already started counseling or therapy elsewhere).
