Anhalt University of Applied Sciences offers free events for doctoral students in collaboration with Harz University of Applied Sciences, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, and Merseburg University of Applied Sciences.
The interdisciplinary workshop and networking program offers the opportunity to acquire various key skills for an academic career. The qualification program is jointly organized by all universities of applied sciences (HAW) in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Participation is therefore open to all HAW doctoral students in the state and promotes networking among early-career researchers.
Doctoral students at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences can also take advantage of the qualification programs offered by the Graduate Academy at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the International Graduate Academy at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg under a cooperation agreement, provided that spots are still available. Are you nearing the completion of your doctorate and wondering what comes next after earning your Ph.D.? From September 3 to 4, 2026, the universities of applied sciences in Saxony-Anhalt will host the inter-university summer school “Launching Your Career After Your Ph.D.” Featuring practical workshops on career entry, leadership skills, and personal branding, as well as plenty of opportunities for discussion and networking—ideal for doctoral students in the advanced stages of their studies.

Open consultation hours: Writing advice from the University Library (Building 17 - Dessau)
You can bring anything you have already written to the open consultation hour: Notes, mind maps, raw texts, etc. It is also perfectly fine if you come to us with an idea in mind or if you want to discuss basic problems during the writing process first. We will then work with you to see how we can help. You can find out on which campus and on which day the writing consultation takes place here.
Finding knowledge - a series from the University Library (Building 17 - Dessau)
From Start to Advanced to Expert: In the "Finding knowledge" event series, you will learn new things about research techniques and search tools at every level. All information is available here.
Your doctorate is about to be completed and you don't know whether you will stay in academia? Are you looking for support in planning your career? Our career counseling service offers you individual and confidential support in your decision-making process.
The aim of the consultation is to support you in making decisions about the next steps in your career and to actively shape your own career planning. Various methods are used in a dialogical discussion format. These allow you to reflect on your experiences and goals and actively approach your career planning.
We offer our career counseling in a protected, distraction-free space. It can be conducted both online and in person. The consultation starts with a 15-minute introductory meeting to clarify your personal concerns. This can be followed by up to four counseling sessions of 60 minutes each. You decide on the scope and continuation of the career counseling. All content is treated in strict confidence.
Career counseling is provided by Sandra Dietzel (Merseburg University of Applied Sciences) and Katja Czech (Anhalt University of Applied Sciences) for all doctoral students at the HAWs in Saxony-Anhalt. We look forward to assisting you with your career planning.

Are you sitting in front of a blank page and can't find a place to start? Are you struggling with your question? Do you read a lot and then forget some of it? Can't find a structure in your text? Or would you just like to talk to someone about your writing project in peace? Come to the peer writing consultation for your academic writing concerns! This lasts approx. 45 minutes, during which you will receive non-hierarchical and non-directive help for self-help from a trained writing coach, e.g. reflecting on your work process, generating ideas, trying out writing methods and strategies, setting goals and receiving text feedback on exemplary text passages. You are and remain the expert for your text - the writing coach does not need to be a specialist.
You are welcome to make an appointment (also possible in the evening) at josephin.winkler@h2.de. The writing consultation can take place online or in person at an agreed location in Magdeburg or Stendal.
About the consultant: Josephin Winkler is a trained peer trainer for academic writing and is doing her doctorate at the University of Halle-Wittenberg.
Frustrated by your doctorate? There are phases during the doctorate that are difficult or unsettling. For example, your own self-management and time management are not working out or there are difficulties in supervising your doctorate. For more clarity of mind, GradNet offers you the opportunity to work on your personal issues confidentially and in a solution-oriented manner in individual coaching sessions. In this way, you can reflect on your resources, strengths and stumbling blocks and find a concrete way of dealing with your challenges.

Psychological counseling for doctoral students
Anxiety, stress, pressure, writer's block? Sometimes we just need someone to talk to. The psychological counseling offered by Dr. Elke Eckhardt is also open to all doctoral students. You can find more information here.
