Center of Advanced Scientific Education
In Saxony-Anhalt, around a third of university professorships will need to be filled in the next few years. The CASE (Centers of Advanced Scientific Education) project at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, together with the Harz, Magdeburg-Stendal and Merseburg universities, is taking on this challenge to ensure the quality of teaching, research and transfer.
This is being done as part of the BMBF's UAS personnel funding program over a targeted funding period from 2021 to 2026.
The tasks of the project are divided into five fields of action in which each university contributes its expertise:
PHD@CASE: Promoting young talent
In May 2021, the HAWs in Saxony-Anhalt became one of the first federal states to be granted their own right to award doctorates. In two joint and three own doctoral centers, the universities now have the opportunity to train Early career researchers directly. In addition, structured qualifications and support are offered to doctoral students.

Tandem@CASE: Tandem program
In addition to academic qualifications, applicants for a professorship must also have the necessary teaching and professional experience. This is also where the CASE project comes in. The tandem program offers doctoral researchers the opportunity to work 50-60% at a university of applied sciences and 40-50% at a company or non-university research institution.
JoinIn@CASE: Recruitment and arrival
In order to find suitable applicants for the application process, professors will be actively recruited in future. Furthermore, the application and career processes will be professionalized in this area of action. The recruited employees will also be supported in their new role through systematic onboarding.

In order to improve the image of HAW professorships, potential applicants must perceive the universities in Saxony-Anhalt as attractive teaching, transfer and research institutions. Specific online and offline measures within this field of action are intended to increase the visibility of the four universities as employers.

One aim of CASE is to increase equal opportunities and diversity at universities. Measures are implemented to actively prepare women on the career path to a HAW professorship. The cross-sectional field is accordingly located in all the fields of action described so far.
