Andre Dirk Voß reports on how he came to study Applied Computer Science and what plans he has for the future:
What made you want to study Applied Computer Science?
After leaving school, I studied economics and also started working in this field. However, I knew very quickly that I didn't want to do that for the rest of my life. So I reoriented myself and discovered my interest in programming. With the additional option of specializing my Bachelor's degree in Applied Computer Science at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in the direction of game development, this course stood out for me from the other "standard" computer science courses.
What makes studying at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences so attractive?
The university has a practical orientation and encourages students to develop their own creativity and ideas through regular student projects. Doing something of your own is also much more fun than cramming for exams all the time. In addition, the informal atmosphere and the approachable professors are things that make studying at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences more attractive for me compared to a university.
What has been the most exciting thing you have experienced during your studies so far?
The most exciting experience for me so far was participating in the "Global Game Jam 2019" together with fellow students and a professor. We developed a small but great game together in 48 hours per week per semester. Everyone had a lot of fun.
And after graduation: what's next?
If everything works out, I'm aiming to find a job in the gaming industry, for example as a game programmer or software developer.
When you're not in the lecture hall, where can you be found in your free time on campus or in the surrounding area?
As I have to work quite a lot in my free time, I tend to spend less time on campus. However, the reading café, the VT student club - right on campus - or the Mensa cellar are always worth a visit.
