Working as a research assistant at a university is probably the most frequently used funding model. If you already have a supervisor, ask him or her for a suitable position. Otherwise, find out about job advertisements at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.
The Anhat University of Applied Sciences awards 6-8 Landesgraduiertenstipendien. The scholarship amounts to 1,100 euros per month (plus family allowances if applicable) and a maximum of 1,100 euros per year for material and travel expenses. The standard term is 3 years, 1 year extension can be applied for in exceptional cases.
Tip: The Grafö Network is a self-organized interest group that supports scholarship holders of the Saxony-Anhalt State Graduate Funding. On the website you will find information about graduate funding, the network and its work as well as current developments regarding the funding situation.
Various foundations, funding organizations, the state, federal government and the EU offer special doctoral scholarships.
The state of Saxony-Anhalt provides the State Graduate Scholarship.
The scholarships from the organizations for the promotion of gifted students generally run for three years. Most funding organizations have two application deadlines per year. To apply for a doctoral scholarship, you must already be accepted as a doctoral candidate at the university. The thirteen organizations for the promotion of gifted students are divided into politically oriented, denominationally oriented, trade union-oriented, entrepreneurially oriented and politically independent organizations for the promotion of gifted students. Your own orientation is therefore decisive for the selection.

Doctoral students who are particularly committed can apply for third-party funding for a project together with their supervisor. Third-party funding is money that a university can apply for, so the application must also be submitted via the university.

The following models for combining professional activity and a doctorate are common:
- Employment at the university during the doctorate: A doctoral position in which the doctoral topic and academic work are closely interlinked is not the only option for financing the doctoral thesis. Working as a teaching staff member for special tasks, in university administration or on a project unrelated to the doctoral topic are also options for combining income, valuable practical experience and work in an academic environment.
- Doing a doctorate alongside a full-time job: For working people who do not want to interrupt their career, the part-time doctorate model offers the opportunity to pursue the doctoral project alongside a permanent job.
- Part-time jobs in fields of work unrelated to the subject of the doctorate are also a way of financing the doctorate.
International doctoral candidates are partly supported by their countries of origin. The DAAD also offers special programs. The International Office can also provide advice. Grants for travel and publication costs
Active participation in seminars as part of the CASE qualification program or at conferences are an important part of your doctorate. Your university's support for early career researchers will help you with travel grants. You can also receive grants towards publication costs as part of your cumulative doctorate.

Funding for open access publications
The German Research Foundation (DFG) will be funding Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in the area of Open Access publications from 2022. Furthermore, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences has set up an Open Access Publication Fund, which can be used to subsidize publications in pure Open Access journals. We would like to motivate you to make use of these grants and to check whether your planned publications meet the criteria listed in the "Guidelines for the Open Access Publication Fund of Anhalt University of Applied Sciences".

Travel grants via the German-American Fulbright Commission
Postdoctoral researchers (professors, instructors) and younger postdoctoral researchers (e.g. research assistants) who are planning a three- to nine-month teaching or research stay at an academic institution in the USA can apply for the travel grant. An application is possible at any time (application at least 6 months before the planned departure to the USA). You can find more information under the following link
