The HAW professorship and the professorship at a university differ in some respects. The biggest difference is that the focus of studies and research at a HAW is more on application than at a university. For this reason, previous work outside the university is a prerequisite (at least 3 years). The tasks are similar, but the number of teaching hours per week is higher at an HAW (16 SWS).

Active recruitment at universities of applied sciences - a profitability analysis
In light of the impending generational shift at universities of applied sciences and the growing challenges in faculty recruitment, the tool of active recruitment is gaining increasing strategic importance. This paper uses experiences from the joint project CASE to analyze the extent to which investments in active recruitment strategies are economically worthwhile particularly under conditions of limited resources. At the core is a cost-effectiveness analysis, which shows that, under the stated assumptions, active recruitment already pays off if only 17% of the procedures prevent the need for a repeated call for applications. It thus proves to be a strategically valuable instrument for attracting academic staff. This study offers a practice-oriented contribution to the further development of modern recruitment strategies at public universities and highlights the potential for their institutional consolidation.
